As the price of oil continues to rise, and as more people than ever wake up to what we are doing to the environment, solar power is rapidly becoming more popular than ever. In fact, one might even say that a revolution is taking place. An increasing number of people are finding value in becoming self-sufficient, and solar power is one of the top choices for those who desire to get "off the grid".

So just how popular is solar power becoming? Well, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, 44% of Americans believe that solar power should become a standard method for heating homes in the United States.

Not only that, but according to that same survey 31% of Americans say that they are at least "somewhat likely" to use solar power in their homes in the next five years, and 13% say that they are very likely to do so.

Those are very encouraging numbers.

The cost of implementing a home solar power system is coming down at a time when more Americans than ever are viewing solar power as a practical alternative.

If you are in need of some inspiration, just check out the following video report about what one couple living in the Herefordshire countryside is doing with solar power....

Of course solar power is not the only alternative energy source that is good for the environment. There are others who are turning to wind power and geothermal methods of producing renewable energy. But solar is probably the most prominent at this point, and it certainly holds a lot of promise.

If you are looking for a way to help the environment and to become more self-sufficient, we encourage you to check out solar power as a possibility. We believe that you will be glad that you did.

Author: Ed Hunter

Alternative energy is energy that is renewable and naturally occurring. Alternative energy does not produce pollution and is a safer, cleaner and less destructive method of obtaining energy than using fossil fuels.

Alternative energy, by its very nature, is not harmful to the Earths environment. Due to increasingly high gas prices and concerns over damage to the environment many people have begun looking for an alternative energy source to meet their needs.

Fortunately searching for an alternative energy source has never been easier than it is now, and finding a provider for an alternative energy source is much easier now than in times past as well.

One very common alternative energy source is wind power. Winds are produced by the uneven heating of the Earths atmosphere and surface by the sun. Wind is free and is readily available in most locations around the world. People have been using windmills for centuries to generate electricity and power.

Wind is the fastest growing energy source in the whole world. And has the potential to supply about 20% of the demand for electricity in the United States at an affordable and economical rate.

Wind power also helps to offset toxic emissions of carbon dioxide. Wind generators are easy to maintain and due to the small amounts of moving parts on them and they are designed to last for years. A windmill is an excellent investment as an alternative energy source as they will pay for themselves in 6-15 years in most instances.

Solar energy is another alternative energy source that is both cost efficient and effective. Solar power is obtained by photovoltaic panels which can be installed on the roof of a home.

There are many skilled professionals available to install the photovoltaic panels and offer advice on there care and upkeep. There are also smaller, portable solar panels available for powering batteries and running small electrical devices.

The photovoltaic panels used for solar power converts energy from the suns rays into electricity. The sun is a constant source of power and heat and solar energy as an alternative energy source is renewable and clean.

Solar energy is a free natural resource that is abundant and inexhausteable. In the United States alone there are more than 10,000 homes that are being powered entirely by solar power as an alternative energy source.

Finding an alternative energy source can a very educational experience that is very rewarding and has positive lasting effects on the Earth and our environment. There are many state and federal financial incentives available to anyone who wants to use an alternative energy source to help save money when buying and installing their alternative energy source.

On that scrubby mound of dirt gushed a fountain of oil that sprayed for days, tripled U.S. oil production overnight and set off a frenzy that revolutionized the industrial age.
Author: Pete Phelps

Because of the rising energy costs sweeping the country and the world, many homeowners are turning towards alternative solutions to meeting their energy needs. One cost-saving option many are examining is solar power for the home. Installing solar power for the home can be a cost-prohibitive endeavor when done by a professional. What most people don't know is that they can install solar panels themselves. By accomplishing this task personally, a homeowner will reap all of the benefits of solar power for the home, but none of the drawbacks in cost.

The way to make solar panels is a far more simple process than most people think. You don't need an engineering degree to make solar power for the home and you don't need to be some electronics whiz-kid either. All you need is a little patience and some free time and you could find yourself on the path of energy freedom. Making and installing solar power for the home can even be a fun and educational activity for your kids, especially teenagers.

The big advantage to building and installing your own solar power for the home is that you'll save a large amount of money. Some professionals charge thousands of dollars to install just a few panels. You will be able to implement a system that can, at very least, power many small appliances and save you money on your energy bill each month. Appliances like DVD players, TVs, computers and coffee makers could all be powered with small solar panels. You could even install a series of panels on your rooftop, giving you complete solar power for the home. You're only limits are that of time and your imagination.

In order to properly build and implement your solar panels, it's important to make sure you have a high quality manual or instructions before you begin. These manuals and instructions for building solar power for the home are available from a number of websites or retailers. However, make sure you are purchasing one that is efficient and reputable. There are a variety of companies that claim they have solar power for the home solutions, but their instructions are overly complicated and lack real insight. Make sure you spend the money to get good instructions; it will pay off in the long run. The supplies themselves are very cost effective. You can purchase lumber, copper wiring and pains of glass from a local hardware store. The photovoltaic cells themselves can either be purchased online or from a local retailer.

The best part about building solar power for the home is the fact that the time it takes is very little. An average person with a little bit of knowledge in building small objects like birdhouses, can build and install a 100-Watt solar panel in less than a day. That solar panel will be enough to power a small appliance or even tools to build more solar panels. Once you build your own solar power for the home in even a small way, the energy savings begin to add up. The money you'll save can be reinvested into more solar panels until eventually you are living off the grid entirely.

Deciding on a proper goal before you begin to install solar power for the home is important. Make sure you understand the proper procedure and exactly what you would like to accomplish first. One easy place to start is in a garden or on a porch. Because the photovoltaic cells will have the ability to accumulate more energy in the open, these spots make prime candidates. You can power lighting or other devices without raising your energy bill.

Again, the most important concept in building solar power for the home is to make sure you have the proper instructions, tools and ability to follow through with the plan. You are making a long-term investment for the future. Not just the future of the planet, but of your own well-being. Besides the financial benefits of installing solar power for the home, you will also reap the rewards of thinking ahead. You'll sleep soundly knowing that the next time the power goes out in your neighborhood, you will have solar panels in place to power daily necessities until the power company can fix the situation.

By: Tony Maichl

With the world facing an energy crisis, it is becoming more important to try to conserve our non-renewable sources by reducing our dependency on them. We can reduce our dependancy on them by using renewable energy solutions to replace the non-renewable energy sources we use to produce electricity. Renewable energy solutions refers to those renewable energy sources that can produce power without exhausting our natural resources which are limited. There are three types of renewable energy sources: solar energy, wind energy, and hydro (water) energy all of which are viable solution to our ever depleting non-renewable energy sources.

Solar Power: The sun is the most abundant energy source on the planet and has always been a source of heat and light. Anyone can take advantage of this free source of power by using the solar power solutions at home. When using solar power at home you can reduce your power bill and you will be helping the environment as solar power does not pollute. Some of the solar power solutions at home consist of solar cookers, solar heating systems, solar hot water systems, solar lighting systems, solar dryers, and ... well you get the picture we can do a lot with the suns energy.

Besides from being environmentally friendly and saving you money on those power bills solar power solutions at home is also cost effective. In a short time these systems will pay for themselves, they are low maintenance so they save time, money, and effort to maintain. Some also believe cooking with solar power is much more health for you than the conventional means of cooking.

Wind Power: The wind has been used to do a lot of work way back before Christ was even born. Windmills were used to tow boats, pump water, and even to turn large mills that crushed wheat and out to make flour. Then during the industrialization period wind mills were put to use to produce electrical power. When using wind power solutions at home, you can generate enough power to free yourself from the power companies and their ever increasing costs. The wind is another one of those excellent renewable energy sources that can help us reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.

Hydro Power: Water is yet another source of renewable energy that is abundant on our planet. Hydro power accounts for 90 percent of the renewable energy sources that we use today to create power. Dams Are built to divert the flow of rivers through water turbines which turn massive electric generators thus producing the electricity that we use on a daily basis. Although water is a renewable energy source there are problems associated with building dams. Blocking the flow of rivers adversely affects the ecosystem downstream.

With the abundance of sun light and wind we should be able to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels just by using solar power solutions at home and, if we live in a region with good air flow with wind power solutions at home.

By: Paul Rodgers

Most people understand that installing a home built solar power system would bring them the benefits of a reduced electrical bill, while at the same time reducing the impact of your business or home on the environment. Solar power sytems are often sized to simply reduce an electricity bill; this provides you with a smaller electricity bill and protection against the future inflation of electricity prices.

One of the other great things about a solar power system, is that if you end up producing more energy that your household needs, you are able to sell the excess energy back to the power companies, meaning they will be paying you. On top of solar power grants, you can also receive a federal tax credit for installing a solar power system in your home, giving you even more reason to get going with this great initiative.

How much is your household power requirement? Is the energy from a home built solar power system sufficient to support your needs? The first step in converting an existing house for a home built solar power system is to choose which solar strategies will work in your home.

A home built solar power system is sized and designed based on the present and predicted future use of electric demand, and is based on kilowatt hours (kWh) consumed during a one year period. The cost of a home built solar power system is a fraction of what you will pay the utility over the years.

More and more people become interested to learn how to make their own home built solar power systems and solar panels. Knowing how to create your own home built solar power system will give you the freedom to go fully off grid. Or you can stay connected and get paid by the electric company for your electricity surplus.

Building inexpensive off grid home built solar power systems can now be made possible with the help of renewable energy manuals that are available online. These renewable energy manuals often target complete beginners who lack the knowledge or experience with building homemade solar generators. Such manuals are regularly comprehensive as well as easy to follow, and uses the help of illustrated diagrams along with video tutorials.

By: Jim Newell

What is solar energy? The earth has been receiving free energy from the sun for as long as there has been an earth. If there was an affordable way to utilize all of the energy the earth receives from the sun in one day, it would supply all of the power needs of the earth.

Affordable cost is the key to effectively using solar power. The good news is that as solar technology advances the cost continues to go down. The really good news is that as the need for clean energy sources climbs, those technology advances are happening much quicker every day.

There may actually be a time in the very near future that a typical homeowner could look forward to supplying his entire household energy needs with free abundant solar power at very low cost.

At present whole house solar power systems are available that can become cost free in 7 to 10 years, however the upfront costs for system components is still rather high. Think of it as prepaying for your electrical needs for the next 25 years up front, and you start being paid back on that investment from day one.

More good news, with the push to renewable energy, there are many sources of credits and rebates that can help drive the high costs down. Your electric utility provider may even be required to buy the excess power you produce from you.

The typical home solar system will last and continue working for 25 or more years. That's 25 or more years of low or no maintenance on a system that will eventually pay you back. Just imagine the thrill of possibly cutting your electric bill down to about $10.00 a month! That's a lot better than the average homeowners $100.00 a month bill.

You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping the environment, solar power systems do not burn fossil fuels, or produce any pollutants. The sun has been providing clean, renewable, solar power for millions of years, and will continue for millions more.

Solar power systems do not have to be an all or nothing proposition, you can start with passive heating, a hot water system (saves up 30% of your power usage), landscape lighting, swimming pool heating, maybe you have an outbuilding that your to have lights in, but do not want to pay the cost of trenching a power line to it. The point is you can start with what you need or want now, and add to your system as your needs evolve.

Solar power systems, because they are straight forward, and use readily available components lend themselves very well to a do it yourself project. Components can be built from readily available inexpensive parts, and then installed. Complete step by step instructions are available that will help you find the parts needed, assemble them into quality working components, and then how to install them. Be sure to check local building codes.
